In the City of Alpharetta, Starr Whitehouse is collaborating with Columbia Engineering to reimagine the 1.4-mile North Point Parkway from a vehicle-dominated thoroughfare to a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly corridor that will catalyze vibrant mixed-use redevelopment. Following the GDOT Plan Development Process, the Columbia/Starr Whitehouse team initially studied two road diet alternatives, settling on the reduction of one lane in each direction. Starr Whitehouse’s scope includes the design of two 12’-0” wide shared-use paths to replace the decommissioned lanes, accompanied by the redesign of twelve signalized intersections for increased pedestrian and bicycle safety. The transportation infrastructure is coupled with extensive native plantings, custom precast seat walls, and distinctive pavements, as well as boardwalk overlooks and enhanced connections to Big Creek Greenway. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.
