Luna is a new model of placemaking and human-centered commercial development in São Paulo, Brazil. The project aims to create a social enclave and creative enterprise hub that is generously integrated with the surrounding urban context. Located in the regenerating Santo Antonio district in south-west São Paulo adjacent to the Pinheiros River, the development consists of Crescent, a renovated office building, and Novo, a new commercial tower. Starr Whitehouse is designing a system of public spaces and gardens that connect Luna with São Paulo’s ecology and the urban district. The design includes a welcoming plaza, two gardens featuring indoor and outdoor food programming, and a neighborhood pocket-park space. An orchard will support sustainability goals while providing fruits and herbs for restaurants in the tower. Luna will create a vibrant, immersive, and open setting to serve businesses, commuters, and residents in Santo Antonio.
