Starr Whitehouse created a varied series of landscapes for a new 23 story residential tower in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn, with 80/20 affordable rental units. It features a landscaped entry court with planted bioswales that leads both pedestrians and motorists to a long bubbling pool announcing the building’s main entrance, set 100’ back from the street. The pool leads the visitor to the rear courtyard, a flexible space with a stone patio and natural play feature connected by a meandering flagstone path. A third floor terrace overlooking Flatbush Avenue features an outdoor exercise area and community garden plots. A rooftop deck provides spaces for residents to lounge, entertain, and grill while taking in the unfettered views over Prospect Park, one block away, and distant views to Manhattan and the Atlantic Ocean. The project seeks LEED Gold Certification.
