Starr Whitehouse was engaged to convert a mechanical rooftop into a shared amenity terrace at a Tribeca Condo. Mechanical equipment was consolidated and concealed within wood screens to increase the usable space. An artificial turf activity area with custom terraced benches and forest glade plantings define the interior of the terrace. Inward looking, the lawn is conceived as the town square of the condo, where residents can play ping pong, host film screenings, and hold large gatherings. The ping pong table and pouf ottomans scattered about the lawn accentuate the playfulness of the space. A series of congregation spaces including a pergola covered dining area, a raised sun deck, and a lounge area radiate around the central lawn. Scaled for smaller groups, these spaces look outwards toward the striking views of lower Manhattan and the Hudson River. Coastal dunes plantings soften the transition from terrace to city.
