Julia Rion
Landscape Designer

As a designer, Julia values the connections between communities and their public spaces. Growing up in Long Island and through her undergraduate degree, Julia has developed interests in equitable climate resilience, stewardship, education, and the role designers can play in fostering these. Julia is a 2022 graduate from SUNY-ESF with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, where she received the 2022 Upstate New York Chapter ASLA Student Honor Award. In the final year of her BLA program, she completed a self-guided thesis project in San Francisco, where she studied the intersections of structural and sociocultural forms of coastal resilience as they relate to public shoreline spaces.
Julia also has a background in horticulture with New York State Parks, where she developed a passion for public green spaces as places for connection to one’s environment and community. She is excited to continue to grow and learn as a designer as part of Starr Whitehouse’s team.
