Landscape Designer, Asst. Studio Director

As landscape designer with a strong background in graphic technology and urban design, Huanyu has contributed to a wide range of landscape, planning, and urban design projects at Starr Whitehouse. These include the Harlem River Greenway Link, where Huanyu developed the digital model and GIS data to support the team’s resilience study and waterfront design. At the Durst Organization’s Queens Plaza Park Development, Huanyu used Lumion to generate an updatable rendered model to register real-time evolutions in the site design. At Autonomy’s Luna Development in Sao Paulo, Huanyu’s graphic skills were used to visualize a bold new corporate plaza design and build consensus around the incorporation of an open air market into the landscape. Beyond project visualization, Huanyu has supported the design team with construction inspections at a new corporate plaza on Pearl Street in Manhattan, and community outreach for the Carroll Park Community Vision Plan. Huanyu completed his Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design at Columbia University, where he focused on landscape infrastructure and reshaping the public realm. Prior to joining Starr Whitehouse, he interned with BuroHappold Engineers, where he participated in a Lower Manhattan mobility analysis and a visioning project to reimagine the Erie Canal.
